French

Emma, the young wife of a country doctor in 1950s France, is bored to death in a life constrained by social conventions. Marriage, respectability—these are roles she cannot identify with. She dreams of love, freedom, forbidden thrills. She escapes by reading Françoise Sagan, imagining other lives. In Sagan’s world, anything is better than boredom. Emma buys paintings, collects images, sensations, illusions, even if it means losing herself. In a world still frozen in old codes, she embodies a woman in the making, torn between fantasy and reality, burning with desire and emancipation.

In an immersive and intimate staging of the theatrical adaptation of Madame Bovary, Emma is a vibrant, sensitive and contemporary portrait of a universal destiny. For ages 15 and up. Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes. Before in the lobby from 7 p.m. on 3 March.
