Can art be decadent? The Musée Picasso in Paris is currently paying tribute to those artists who were removed from gallery walls by the Nazis, often buying up the forbidden canvases via Switzerland. The “art of the Nazis” condemned Mucha, Picasso, Kokoschka, Chagall, Kandinsky, Klee – in short, everything that modern art had produced that was most innovative and admirable. Florence Mothe will be addressing this serious issue in her lecture on 30 March at the Château de Mongenan in Portets, which will be the penultimate in the series entitled “The exquisite charm of decadence”. The lecture programme will resume on 27 April with a series on gardens and the philosophies of nature.
