At the end of the 19th century, Friedrich Nietzsche broke the scoop of the century – indeed, of the millennium: ‘God is dead’. This shocking announcement was met with a degree of scepticism. But Nietzsche was so certain of the validity of his claim that he even backed it up with an ambiguous statement: ‘One can die from being immortal!’ It was then that he began to make revelations. In the course of his investigation into the death of God, he had discovered a certain Zoroaster who had invented it all before anyone else: a single God, the possibility of addressing him democratically, without the intermediary of a priest, theinvention of a moral code, and all of this in the most ancient of times.

He decided to turn it into a book before he went completely mad. And so was born: ‘Thus Spoke Zarathustra’.

It is this extraordinary story that Florence Mothe will recount on Sunday 30 August at 5 pm at Mongenan Castle in Portets.
