Les Nuits Atypiques and the Cinéma Grand Écran Le Rio in Langon are organising a screening on Wednesday 11 June at 8pm of La fèsta a Ladèrn, torn de l’ase e bufòli, a documentary film by Patric La Vau (2024, 52min, in Occitan, with French subtitles) followed by a Q&A with the director.

Every year, the village of Ladern-sur-Lauquet is gripped by carnival fever at the height of summer, on the Tuesday after 15 August! Village folk, young and old, friends and musicians from the surrounding area come together in a friendly, family atmosphere for the donkey ride and the “bufòli”. Using footage filmed over a two-year period, old photographs and interviews with a number of those involved, this documentary takes us inside this summer carnival and reveals the history, significance and driving forces behind this fèsta a Ladèrn.
