Live broadcast of the ballet Le Corsaire at the ONB to Saint-symphorien
Le 09/07/2025Languages spoken
Mixing adventure and fantasy, Le Corsaire tells the tale of the thwarted loves of the privateer Conrad and the beautiful Médora, whom he rescues from the harem of the terrible Seyd Pasha. Kidnappings, scenes of shipwreck and revolt carry the performers along in an epic tale. The colourful mosaics of an imaginary Orient are echoed in Adolphe Adam’s passionate music, which draws on the ballet’s literary origins and Byron’s Orientalist poem.
The choreography by José Carlos Pérez is a masterpiece in its own right.
The choreography by José Carlos Martínez, Director of Dance at the Opéra national de Paris, is inspired by that of Marius Petipa (1899) and pays homage to his most emblematic pieces: Le Jardin animé and Pas d’esclave. Characterful and colourful dances follow one another, between virtuoso ensembles and solo variations.
