Narrative theatre: My Award – Wally to Portets
Le 05/11/2026On stage, Lilian Derruau links his experiences as a ‘working-class kid’ to the ideas of the sociologist Pierre Bourdieu. Not content merely to recount memories of his early childhood, he paints a picture of working-class France in the 1970s in a piece where earthy humour and self-deprecation go hand in hand. Known as Wally* and long categorised as a ‘comic singer seen on the telly’, we find him here in a completely different vein: sociological storytelling. But in his own way, provoking laughter, with a touch of poetry and a wealth of emotion. With tenderness and modesty, a twinkle in his eye, Wally recounts his life story, marked first by carefree days, then by a realisation: that of a certain form of social predestination from which it is very difficult to break free.
