St Romain’s Church

Take the path to the left of the church

Stage 3

Carry on straight ahead until you reach the pine grove.

Stage 4

Take the pine-lined path on the left.

Stage 5

At the end of the pine-lined path, at the road, turn right

Stage 6

take the path on the left

Stage 7

At the end of the path, turn left; watch out for the signpost – it’s facing away from the path but is clearly visible.

Carry on straight ahead

Follow the bend to the left – please note there is no marker post

turn right towards "Fonbanne"; you can see the water board

Turn left at the water board

Behind the wash house, take the small footbridge on the right

At the junction, turn straight ahead

Follow the signposts to the right through the forest

As you come out of the forest, head straight ahead

At the stop sign, head towards Landiras

Turn right. Watch out for traffic

Take the path across the meadow on the left

Head towards Lapeyrouse

At the junction, head straight on.

On the right is Budos Castle. You can take a tour and enjoy a wine tasting of AOC Graves wines.

Follow the left-hand turn signposted ‘Marots Est’

Stage 23

Follow the road that heads uphill to the right, then follow the signposts back to the church.

Watch out for the dog from the house on the left, which has dug a hole under the wire fence and is coming out of its garden.

Take Rue Jules Ferry, past the sports ground and the school, then turn left.

You’ll pass the village hall and the library; at the end of the street, turn left.

Set off on a walk in Budos, a village in the heart of the Landes Girondines, where history, nature and heritage come together at every turn. Dominating the landscape, the imposing ruins of the 14th-century fortified castle are a reminder of the power of the lords of yesteryear. It perfectly exemplifies the style of the ‘Clémentin’ castles. You’ll follow paths lined with vineyards on gravelly soil, alternating with woodland scenery. A few panoramic views of the Ciron valley and the vineyards will punctuate the route.
