La forêt galerie du Ciron to Pujols-sur-ciron
“Gallery forest” refers to the vegetation of oak, pine and other species that line the banks of the Ciron, protecting it from the summer sun.
This ‘gallery forest’ is highly influential in keeping the river cooler than the Garonne.
This difference in temperature between the two rivers is responsible for the frequent morning fogs that invade the region, and provides the ideal conditions for botrytis cineréa to develop. The “gallery forest” is therefore at the very beginning of the production chain for the famous Sauternes wines.
