Château d’Yquem to Sauternes
Length of visit : 90 minutesLanguages spoken
The result of a rare combination of geology, geography, climate and the extraordinary fungus known as noble rot, Yquem is a miracle of nature, enhanced by human ingenuity and expertise.
Over the course of its 400-year history, the estate’s managers have refined a winemaking philosophy that is both meticulous and daring, in a quest for perfection so risky that ten entire vintages have not been bottled since 1910. Even the most generous harvests produce only one glass of Yquem per vine.
This elixir, of exceptional opulence and complexity, sees its brilliant golden hue evolve in the bottle over the decades, like the rays of the sun from dawn to dusk; inspiring French novelist Frédéric Dard to describe it as “drunk light”.
