A special tour of Caussarieu Mill to Prechac
Le 17/05/2026Languages spoken
The Sud Gironde Patrimoines association is organising a walking tour to the Caussarieu mill. This site is notable for its stunning scenery, the Ciron Gorges—home to a biodiversity designated as a Natura 2000 site—and, opposite the Caussarieu mill, the ruins of Batan Castle and its wool-beating mill. The 15th-century Caussarieu Mill has retained all its wooden machinery. During this exceptional tour, you will discover, across three levels, the journey of the grain right through to its milling.
Furthermore, the River Ciron was used to transport timber. The history of the raftsmen and millers is inextricably linked to the daily challenges of navigating the rafts.
Please wear suitable footwear and bring water. In the event of heavy rain, the tour will be postponed.
Booking is essential.
Access to the mill is not recommended for people with reduced mobility.
