Exhibition of drawings by Henri Maignan to Cadillac-sur-garonne

As part of the ‘RDV avec Garonne’ event organised by the Garonne collective, the Sauvegarde de Rions association has made available an archive of drawings byHenri Maignan, showcasing the villages and the banks of the Garonne from Cambes to Castets and Castillon.

At the Cadillac tourist information office, there are drawings of the bastide of Cadillac: the Porte de la Mer, the ducal castle, the church…

Henri Maignan (Bordeaux, 1815 – Rions, 1900) was a contemporary of Leo Drouyn and the Commission des Monuments Historiques. His work reflects that taste for heritage so characteristic of the 1850s. Yet he was by no means an archaeologist. This well-established landowner in Rions – he lived on the hillsides of the Thibaud estate, which offered a superb view over the Garonne valley – had two passions: the navy and boats… and the fine arts, which he practised assiduously.
