In *Malis, the Old Woman and Joy*, there is … an old lady with almond-shaped eyes glistening with tears, the rays of the sun on this summer’s morning, a care home, a broken air-conditioning system, a caring carer, visits from family, a clown who appears out of nowhere, and the sound of the rain in the evening.

There are echoes of a past that creep into the present, sensations from a distant place and time, a war, a flight, a life to start anew, and a sister – so very different.

There are men, children and grandchildren, love, the story of a life… and a pet.
