Rendez-vous in the gardens – the gardens of the lost castle to Saint-michel-de-castelnau
Le 08/06/2025This wild garden is located on the site of the former Castelnau-de-Mesmes château. The site allows visitors to discover the outcropping ruins of the castle destroyed in 1933 and the beautiful trees that are remnants of the English park dating from 1900. The unusual underground passageways bear witness to an eventful history. A stream runs through them, leading to a fairly long natural cave. As part of the site’s industrial history, a canal helps to maintain wetlands and a large alder grove. The whole site covers 6 hectares, combining parkland, meadows, hedges and streams. An oasis among the pines.
The programme for the day includes a plant swap, a botanical walk, a short history of the lost castle and a visit to the underground passageway.
You can also take advantage of your visit to St Michel de Castelnau for the Papet open house, which is just across the road!
