Fêtes de la Saint Jean à Bazas to Bazas

The people of Bazaye have traditionally celebrated their town’s patron saint in June since the earliest times of Christianity. The festivities begin with the ceremony of homage to the bull, during which the town’s master butchers used to offer a bull to the bishop and later to the town’s jurats. This ceremony, full of colour and music, is re-enacted today in the Place de la Cathédrale on 23 June. It is followed by St John’s bonfires set up in front of the cathedral and ceremonially set alight.

All entertainment is free, and there is a funfair all week long on the Allées Saint Sauveur.

> Friday 20th and Saturday 21st: festive concerts and bodegas.
> Sunday 22 :
11am: Mass with blessing of the Crosses of St John
11pm: fireworks at the Castagnolles stadium.
> Monday 23rd :
9.45pm: Tribute to the Bull and Grand spectacle: “Parade of the Prince of the Moon: closing banquet”, setting fire to the cathedral and St John’s fireworks.
