Uz Spring Festival to Uzeste

This spring of Uzestival, from here, from there and from everywhere, enchants us: alive, resilient, singing, thinking, and—from here, from there and still—superbly playing at playing all the time… amidst all these times rushing headlong to their doom. In this ‘commodifying’, dying, ‘terrorising’ world, we must urgently play against the sad passions and the nihilistic temptation to withdraw into oneself, against the fear of the other, that unknown within oneself… make way for difference, for the living. The Americans are very lucky; wherever they go to export their democracy, they find oil. “The task that is virtually impossible to resolve is not to allow oneself to be stupefied, neither by the power of others nor by one’s own powerlessness” (Adorno)

Faced with the violence of the world’s misery, our resistance lies in the duty to perform…
