Fête de la Palombe to Bazas

In the Bazadais region, hunting wood pigeons is a finely honed art practised every year from 15 September to 15 November, during the migratory passage of this beautiful blue bird.

For the past few years, a special event has been dedicated to it, organised by the ‘Confrérie des Paloumayres de Bazats’, the guardians of traditions in this field.

A hunting scene is re-enacted on the magnificent Cathedral Square. The trees, the hunting hide, the vegetation, the ‘ground’: it’s all there! Half a day dedicated to the world of wood pigeons, perhaps better known outside Aquitaine as ‘pigeons ramiers’.

Dates

8.00 am: Breakfast at La Palombière
From 9.00 am – Entertainment (Roucoulayre competition)
10.30 am – Procession of the Brotherhoods through the market.
11.00 am: Blessing and release of wood pigeons on the cathedral forecourt.
11.30 am: Induction ceremonies in the town hall market hall.
12.30 pm – Aperitif hosted by the local council.
1.30 pm – Gala dinner at the multi-purpose hall (open to all, booking required by 16 September).
