Embark on an ornithological journey that will take you through a wide variety of habitats and species. In particular, you’ll meet the emblematic grey cranes and dark-bellied brant. You’ll also discover the exceptional diversity of coastal birds wintering in the Arcachon Basin and the passerines of the Lande. Accompanied by Christophe Troquereau, a naturalist from the Regional Nature Park, you will spend the winter at the Ferme des filles, an organic farm, in pleasant woodland gîtes set in the heart of a traditional airial.

Highlights of your stay :

Day 1 | Welcome at the end of the day by the girls from the Farm and your naturalist guide. Presentation and introduction in the classroom with Christophe to discover the environments and a few key notions about the ecology of coastal and moorland species.

Day 2 | Early departure by mini-bus for the marine shores of the Arcachon Basin. You’ll see a wide variety of waders, ducks and great waders on the ornithological reserve before heading off to see the brant around the Arcachon basin. In mid-afternoon, you will head inland to watch the return of the grey cranes to their roosting site.

Day 3 | In the early hours of the morning, you can watch the cranes as they leave for their feeding grounds. A short stroll through the nearby fields will give you the opportunity to look out for a few wintering passerines on the moor or the more terrestrial of our shorebirds (Golden Plover, Crested Lapwing). You will conclude your stay with some final observations on the Daughters’ Farm and the nearby stream in search of thrushes, larks, woodpeckers and wagtails.
