Drawing on graffiti and urban art, Saïr has developed a practice rooted in the material itself. With ‘Spiritus’, he invites the viewer to immerse themselves in the very heart of the wood, which he explores and reveals. Working on OSB, pine and veneer, he ‘sculpts’ the surface using acrylic paint, Posca pens and ink… to bring out relief, depth and textural variations. His compositions, reminiscent of a primitive form of writing, play with light and shadow. The fibres and irregularities of the wood give rise to organic forms, somewhere between abstract landscapes and suggested figures, which the viewer is free to interpret as they wish.

Spiritus, Latin for ‘breath’, evokes an invisible energy linking matter and consciousness. The wood thus becomes the site of a vibration, a rhythm, a breath made perceptible.
